Have Character SongPower Workshops", in which I visit a school for
a full week and brainstorm with each class to write a brand new song...
and then we perform it together and RECORD it!

So far, since January 2006, we have written, performed and recorded over 100 songs together. Each song explores a different subject matter such as courage, respect, empathy, or having a positive attitude. When we start to brainstorm about what our chosen subject matter means, our discussion can go absolutely anywhere... and where it goes is what our songs becomes!

For
those who weren't there...
here's what we did:
First, we started off the week with a concert of my songs.
Next, I began meeting with each of the classes - we met four times each for an hour per session. Each class worked with a different subject based on values such as self-discipline, positive words, caring for each other, and persistence.
In the first session, we had a BRAINSTORM session about our subject matter. At the end of the brainstorm session, we spoke about "The Hook" of the song and chose what we thought was the most interesting or important point we wanted to make about our subject matter. This became THE HOOK upon which we hung the rest of the song... and so the song began.
The kids had a take-home project to bring back to me some further thoughts and ideas based on our HOOK.
In our second session, we took some of these ideas and began to sculpt the song, with CHORUS and VERSES and maybe some in-between surprises.
In our third session, we refined our song and began to practice performing it.
Before our fourth session, I set up my recording studio equipment in the music room, and then - we RECORDED OUR SONGS!!! The kids all did a great job and were very professional in the studio atmosphere, as you'll hear below.
Finally, we finished off the week with our final concert, with each class performing their song for the rest of the schoola and some parents and teachers too! Again - the kids did an amazing job.
ALL OF THIS WE DID IN JUST A FEW DAYS!!!
THAT WAS THE POWER OF FOCUS and POSITIVE ATTITUDE and ENTHUSIASM!!!
Since we wrapped up the concert, I brought back the recordings we made to my studio in Edmonton, where I have been fine tuning and editing them where needed to get our final polished RECORDED SONG! You can hear the results below - and remember - these were recorded live-off-the-floor at the school, with just minor editing afterwards.
